Minor Royal Comes Out

hist-b-2Lord Ivar Mountbatten, great-great-great grandson of Queen Victoria and cousin to the current Queen has come out as bisexual.

In an exclusive interview with the Mail on Sunday, Lord Ivar Mountbatten (53) has said that he is bisexual. Acknowledging that he had struggled with his sexuality, Mountbatten revealed that his ex-wife Penny, with whom he has three children, had known of his sexuality when they married in 1994, and had been supportive of his decision to come out.

“Everyone in our family knows and could not be more supportive, ” he said.

Despite Mountbatten using the word ‘bisexual’ to describe himself, the rabble-rousing tabloid chose to repeatedly label him as gay in both headline and article. Pink News, the Independent, and the majority of the British and American press has chosen to follow suit.

Bisexual Woman Tops List of Top LGBT Executives

A bisexual woman has been given the top slot in a list of 100 LGBT business executives.

CEO of Lloyds of London Inga Beale was given the honour by  Out Standing, an LGBT advocacy group that encourages diversity in business. She is, according to OUTStanding, “one of the few – perhaps the only – openly bisexual business leaders at her level”.

As the first female CEO of historic insurance firm Lloyds of London, Beale, has launched a market modernisation programme and opened offices in Dubai and Beijing. She has also introduced Inclusion@Lloyd’s, which aims to ensure Lloyd’s is a diverse and inclusive market, and Pride@Lloyds, an internal LGBT employee resource group.

Study Says Women More Likely To Be Bisexual Than Men

girls-839809_640Researchers at the University of Notre Dame have released a study which suggests women may be more sexually “flexible” than men.

The study was based on results from The National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health. The study composes four waves, each of which tracked 5,018 women and 4,191 men from mid-adolescence to late 20s. She found women more likely to change how they reported their sexuality as time progressed, and men likelier to stick to a fixed identity of either gay or straight.

The study’s author, Elizabeth McClintock, said: “Women have a greater probability than men of being attracted to both men and women, giving them greater flexibility in partner choice.

“Having flexible sexual attractions may grant greater importance to contextual and experiential factors
when it comes to sexual identity.”
McClintock doesn’t discuss whether or not society’s complex views on male vs female bisexuality may have affected participants’ answers.

Brighton and Hove Pride Unveils Branded Bus

Brighton Pride, in partnership with Brighton & Hove Buses, have unveiled the first officially branded Pride Bus.

Now in general circulation and daily use all around Brighton, you can ride the Pride bus on a variety of routes across the city.

The bus honours local legend, drag queen and fundraiser Phill Starr, who passed away in October 2005..

Phil performed on stages across the world for more than 50 years and also raised thousands of pounds for charity. His last show was at the cabaret bar Legends, in the New Europe Hotel, Marine Parade where he had also been the first performer 14 years earlier.

LGBT* in UKIP Gatecrashes Pride

800px-Pride_in_London_2013_-_211Pride in London is courting controversy once again, by allowing UKIP to march in the Parade that was held in the West End on Saturday.

UKIP, a far-right political party whose members have been outspoken in their racism and homophobia, had their application to march in the parade controversially turned down by the Pride in London committee following an outcry by the LGBT community. The committee insisted the decision was not made on political grounds but in the name of safety.

In December, Kerry Smith, standing for UKIP South Basildon and East Thurrock resigned from his candidacy after calling gay people ‘fucking disgusting old poofters’. In February the group UKIP Christian Soldiers, authorised by UKIP HQ circulated leaflets that claimed educating school children on LGBT issues was ‘sexual grooming’.

US Supreme Court Declares Same-Sex Marriage Legal Across Every State

The Supreme Court of the United Stated today ruled that same-sex marriage is legal across the USA.

Attempts by anti-LGBT states to ban same-sex marriage have been declared unconstitutional.

The historic ruling came after a decades long battle for LGBT activists. The decision was made as part of  a case  known as Obergefell v Hodges. Five of the nine Supreme Court Justices determined that marriage equality was a right under the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment.

Justice Anthony Kennedy, who cast the deciding vote, said,“The Constitution promises liberty to all within its reach, a liberty that includes certain specific rights that allow persons, within a lawful realm, to define and express their identity.
